Our Big Surprise!

So let’s face it, if you know me on any level, you should definitely know by now that my heart beats for new life and life abundant! I adore children of all ages, especially babies.

You can imagine, with life so full and the twins crawling all over the place now, it was quite a surprise to discover that we will be welcoming baby #12 into the world a month after the twins turn one!

The birth of the twins ushered in a rough recovery for me and they have nursed exclusively around the clock until very recently when they began solid foods. I don’t start my babies on foods until they get their first teeth. (That will be a post for another time)

When I told my midwife all that we were doing to prevent and be “careful,” in addition to the fact that I am nursing not one but TWO babies so much and still not sleeping, she said, "well, I don’t quite know how that happened, but all I have to say is: God must have a real special purpose for this new little one."

Travis and I decided to announce the news to the family at Thanksgiving time when we were all together. My parents came in from California and my brother and his two sons got to join us as well as all the out of state older children, which made for a lively celebration.

The children were SO excited and oddly, the week before, our youngest daughter privately told me that she really wished I would have one more baby. It never ceases to amaze me how it seems that God prepares the hearts of my children for big life things, in ways that I could never imagine or even fully understand. I am so very thankful for that.

It was fun that my family was able to get together and we were able to get some pictures together that we have not had taken together in over a decade! This is a picture of my immediate family, my brother and parents that I grew up with.

We also got a shot of the grandparents and all of their grandchildren. With all of the changes and uncertainty in these times, I am learning to cherish these moments more than ever before.

Back to our exciting news...fun fact: we are expecting our second grandchild in February, so this new baby will not only have a niece but also a nephew older than her/ him! The children are so excited and ask nearly daily if they can put their hand on my tummy and feel the baby kick. When they feel how tiny the kicks are, they nearly melt every time. New life never gets old!

Thank you for celebrating with us!
